Many infant carriers allow your baby to remain in
her first car seat until 13kg (12-15 months), and
it’s safest for her to stay in a reward-facing seat
for as long as possible before she switches to
forward facing.
When she’s ready, there are two types of car seat to
choose from –
forward-facing or highback booster
with harness
Making the switch from a
rearward-facing to a forward-facing
car seat is a real milestone for your
little one. She’ll love being able to
watch you as you drive, and you can
keep an eye on her with a child view
mirror. Comfort and safety are
paramount. She’s going to be in
her Group 1 car seat for quite some
time, so it’s wise to take the time to
research which car seat will best suit her – and your own –
needs. Remember, expert buying advice is always on hand at
Mothercare.
ISOFIX makes fitting a child car seat quick, simple and safe. ISOFIX
anchorage points are built into the car so an ISOFIX compatible car seat can be simply ‘plugged’ in. Since February 2006, all new
ECE-approved cars are equipped with ISOFIX anchorage points. Before
installation, check the car-compatible list at
www.mothercare.com
.
It’s safest to leave your baby in a rearward-facing car seat for as long as possible, and you shouldn’t move her into a forward-facing seat until she’s reached the minimum weight and can sit up unaided. Forget how old she is – the seat won’t provide maximum protection if your baby is not heavy enough for it. And remember, cars come in all shapes and sizes, so there’s no one-size-fits-all seat. With our ‘free safe fit’ service, one of our trained fitting experts will be happy to check that the car seat you buy fits both your child and your car. They will also demonstrate how to fit your car seat safely. Selected stores also provide a free fitting service, fitting the car seat bought from us in your car. Once fitted, we will provide you with a comprehensive safety checklist, to make sure your child stays
safe on every journey. See the catalogue for a list of stores offering this service.
