1. Nappies one for every hour you’re
expecting to be out is generally a good
guide.
6. Change of clothes – don’t leave home
without a spare outfit for your baby.
2. Baby wipes - easier than
cotton wool and water when you’re on
the move. A small travel dispenser
means you won’t have to carry a whole
packet around.
7. Muslins – dozens of uses, from
catching spills to covering up when you’re
breastfeeding.
3. Nappy sacks – you’ll need plenty of
these for used nappies (useful for dirty
clothes, too).
8. Bibs – useful for protecting your baby’s
clothes if you’re likely to feed her while
you’re out.
4. Folding changing mat – if there are no
baby changing facilities around, a wipe-
clean, portable mat means you can do the
job on the spot.
9. Bottle – if you’re bottlefeeding, take a
pre-sterilised bottle and a ready-to-use
carton of formula – ideal as it’s at room
temperature and also sterile.
5. Cream – useful if your baby suffers
from nappy rash.
10. Breast pads - if you’re breastfeeding,
don’t forget to pop a stack of spare breast
pads in your changing bag.
11. Soothers – keep a couple of spares
in the changing bag in a sterile container in case one gets lost or dropped.
12.Toy – even small babies like something to look at and cuddle. If she has a
special comforter, pack that too.

tips for stress-free trips

Getting anywhere on time with a newborn can be a challenge, but a well-organised changing bag will help to keep outings
stress-free. Once you’ve been out a few times, you’ll soon get to know what’s best for you and your baby. Look out for:

A folding changing mat
An insulated bottle pocket
Compartments to separate clean clothes from dirty
An easy-access pocket for your keys, purse and phone
A secure fastening, so things don’t fall out
Comfortable straps – a diagonal cross-body strap is kindest to your back
Loops to hang over the handles of your pushchair

Remember to pack a spare top for you, plus spare breast pads. Getting caught in a downpour can ruin your outing, so take the
raincover for the pram and a fold-away waterproof jacket for yourself – carrying an umbrella while pushing a buggy is almost
impossible. When you get home, take anything used or dirty out of the changing bag and refill it so you’ll be good to go next time
you want to leave the house.
